Alan M. Sugar, MD (Chairman)
Dr. Sugar is Professor of Medicine at Boston University
School of Medicine, Boston, MA. Dr. Sugar has served
as the Chairman of the New England Institutional Review
Board for the past 12 years. He is Director of the HIV/AIDS
and Hepatitis C Virus Infection Programs at Cape Cod
Hospital, Hyannis, MA. He is on the staffs of Boston
Medical Center and Cape Cod Hospital. A graduate of
Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Sugar is a Diplomat of
the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Infectious
Diseases and is a Fellow of the American College of
Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
He is a reviewer for numerous journals and is the coeditor
of Research Practitioner.
Eileen Rusnak, CIP
Ms. Rusnak is the Director of Product Development for
the Center for Clinical Research Practice, Inc., a Boston-based
company that develops and publishes textbooks and journals
for the clinical trials industry. She is a graduate
of Boston University where she majored in history. She
was the director and administrator of NEIRB and has
expertise in regulatory issues. She has authored numerous
texts and articles including Policies and Standard
Operating Procedures for the Institutional Review Board
and is an editor for SOP Advisor. She has
worked as a study coordinator and has a background in
non-profit administration and writing. Ms. Rusnak is
certified as an IRB Professional (CIP).
Erin Thacker, MS, CIP
Ms. Thacker is Lead Administrator for the New England
Institutional Review Board. She graduated from Simmons
College with a BS in Health Sciences and received her
master's degree in Regulatory Affairs and Health Policy
at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Ms. Thacker is
a member of ARENA and, for the past several years, has
worked as an IRB Coordinator for Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center and IRB Coordinator and Education Coordinator
for the BU School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center.
Ms. Thacker is certified as an IRB Professional (CIP).
Kelly Honohan, Esq.
Ms. Honohan is a lawyer in the Health Care Group of
Ropes & Gray. She represents a broad range of health
care clients, including hospitals, health care systems,
and pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.
She has experience in regulatory, research, and HIPAA
compliance matters. Ms. Honohan graduated from Boston
University and earned her J.D. from Boston University
School of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association,
the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association,
and the American Health Lawyers Association.
